Andrew Weir

Andrew Weir is one of the most sought-after Scottish speakers, entertainers and whisky/spirits personalities; bringing together a rare mix of storytelling, performance, humor and subject knowledge. He is keen to point out, however, that he is much more of an enthusiast than an academic expert in either subject. More of a bard than a bore.

Born and raised in Ayr, just a few miles from Robert Burns’ birthplace of Alloway, Andrew is regarded as one of the world’s foremost performers of Burns’ works. A former Scottish recitation champion, he has performed the Bard’s work around the world—from palaces to pubs—and was, for many years, the face of Burns for Scotland.org and two campaigns at Disney’s EPCOT.

Andrew’s career has straddled entertainment and the world of spirits. A former professional actor—whose credits include the academy award winning Braveheart and five years in children’s and comedy programming at the BBC—he went on to build a distinguished career in whisky and spirits, leading and growing celebrated brands including The Balvenie and Aberlour. Today, he is President & Co-Founder of Martingale Cognac.

Along the way, Andrew has been named an Icon of Whisky, awarded the Keys to the City of New Orleans, served for five years on the U.S. board of the National Theatre of Scotland, and co-created and executive produced the award-winning Raw Craft with Anthony Bourdain.

Whether commanding a stage, hosting an unforgettable whisky experience or soulfully bringing the words of Robert Burns to life, Andrew has built a reputation for making Scottish culture and spirits as entertaining as they are compelling. Burns Distilled is where all of those worlds collide—and Andrew’s passion project many years in the making.
